Musings about Man's Fall:

The tragic history of man's fall shows us some important things about ourselves. For one thing, it shows us that God did not create us with the lustful desires of our flesh. They came from another source. Actually, not just our body was damaged by the fall of man. Our soul was polluted as well. Our mind is not pure. Our emotions often lead us in wrong directions. Our will stubbornly persists in things that hurt us but is weak in choosing some of the things we know we should. Our spirit should enable us to contact God, fellowship with God, and know God. The fact that fallen man can even doubt God's existence proves that we have lost these abilities.

This history also begins to show us God's salvation. Adam and Eve may have expected that God would strike them dead for disobeying Him. They probably hated the serpent for deceiving Eve. Instead God promised that the seed of the woman would bruise the serpent's head. This promise and the proper covering God made for them must have been a great comfort to them. The fact that Adam called his wife's name Eve, which means living, is an indication that he they would be dead and was rejoicing that they were not.

Then what about God's warning that they would die the day they ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil? Was God just making an empty threat? Not at all! It is true that Adam and Eve did not die physically or psychologically that day. But their spirits died. It is not until we believe into the Lord Jesus and receive His salvation that our spirit is made alive again. This is one of the biggest blessings in God's complete salvation.
