The goal of this lesson is to reinforce the importance of using our spirit and that our natural thought and feelings are far off from God.Introduction:
Review the main points concerning the fact that we have a human spirit and that we can use it to contact God.Rom. 8:5-6
For those who are according to the flesh mind the things of the flesh; but those who are according to the spirit, the things of the Spirit. For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the spirit is life and peace:Rom. 8:7
- The mind set on the flesh is death.
- The mind set on the spirit is life and peace.
- The spirit is life, life and spirit go together.
- God is life, God is Spirit. When we contact God we touch life and Spirit.
- Is our mind set on God now? Yes! So we are enjoying life and peace.
- When someone is teaching you worldly nonsense at school where is your mind? Flesh
- When you quarrel with someone where is your mind?
- The flesh is that part of our nature that is attracted to bad things.
- The flesh also means our natural thought without God.
Because the mind set on the flesh is enmity against God, for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can it be.Rom. 8:8
- The mind set on the flesh is death.
- The mind set on the flesh is enmity against God.
- You cannot understand God with the natural mind.
And those who are in the flesh cannot please God.Rom. 8:9
- Whatever we do in the flesh does not please God.
But you are not in the flesh, but in the spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Yet if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not of Him.John 3:6
- You are not in the flesh but in the spirit if the Spirit of God dwells in you.
- You have received the Lord.
- The Spirit of God dwells in you now.
That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit..John 3:5
- We are born of the flesh through our parents.
- Our spirit is separate from the flesh.
- Our spirit is made alive by being born of the Spirit.
Jesus answered, Truly, truly I say to you, Unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.John 6:63
- You enter into the kingdom of God by being born of the Spirit.
- Entering the kingdom is not a matter of adoption or of immigration but of birth.
- (Water here signifies repentance.)
It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words which I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.
- The Spirit gives life; the flesh profits nothing.
- The words spoken here mean the words of the Bible.
