The goal of this lesson is to foster a habit of enjoying the Lord through eating His Word. Do not try to bring the new one into an outward practice. That will become a religious duty that very few can maintain and thus become a long term source of frustration and discouragement to them. If you can help them to touch the Lord through His Word in a way that is living and fresh every time then they will come to Him every day with joy. This will last.Introduction:
1Pet. 2:2-3
- You have been born of God.
- You are a spiritual baby. A baby needs to be fed.
- The Bible is a book of life. It is food to our spirit.
2 As newborn babes, long for the guileless milk of the word in order that by it you may grow unto salvation,Jer. 15:16
3 If you have tasted that the Lord is good.
- The Word is milk to feed us that we may grow.
- Only life grows.
- We can taste how good the Lord is by eating His Word.
Your words were found and I ate them,Ezek. 3:1-3
And Your word became to me
The gladness and joy of my heart,
For I am called by Your name,
O Jehovah, God of hosts.
- Jeremiah, the prophet found the Lord's words and ate them.
- As he ate the word of the Lord it became the gladness and joy of his heart.
1 Then He said to me, Son of man, eat what you find; eat this scroll, and go, speak to the house of Israel.John 6:48
2 So I opened my mouth, and He gave me that scroll to eat.
3 And He said to me, Son of man, feed your stomach and fill your inward parts with this scroll that I am giving you. And I ate it, and it was like honey in my mouth in its sweetness.
- Ezekiel, the prophet also ate the word of the Lord.
- He found it to be like honey in his mouth in its sweetness.
I am the bread of life.Revelation 3:14
- Jesus is the bread of life.
- When we eat His Word we are eating Jesus in spirit.
And to the messenger of the church in Laodicea write: These things says the Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the beginning of the creation of God:2 Corinthians 1:20
- "Amen" is a Hebrew word meaning firm, steadfast, or trustworthy.
- The Lord is the firm, steadfast and trustworthy One.
- So here He calls Himself "the Amen".
For as many promises of God as there are, in Him is the Yes; therefore also through Him is the Amen to God, for glory through us to God.Psalm 106:48
- Christ is the Yes, the answer, the fulfillment of all God's promises to us.
- We say "Amen" through Christ to God.
- We should never doubt God's promises to us.
- It is often helpful to speak God's Word, especially His promises, out loud and with an "Amen".
- To believe and receive God's word in such a way is spiritual eating.
Blessed be Jehovah the God of Israel, from eternity to eternity. And let all the people say, Amen. Hallelujah.1 Corinthians 14:16
- Here the psalmist offers a praise to the Lord.
- The best response was "Amen. Hallelujah."
Otherwise if you bless with the spirit, how shall he who fills the place of the unlearned in tongues say the Amen at your giving of thanks, since he does not know what you are saying?
- The definite article, "the Amen", indicates emphasis.
- In the meetings our speaking should be with clear words and a strong spirit.
- Whenever someone else speaks with a strong exercise of his or her spirit we should respond with an "Amen" from our spirit.
- The "Amen" encourages the speaker to exercise his spirit more.
- The "Amen" also keeps us in spirit so that we not only hear the words, the Spirit can flow from the speaker to us and from us back to the speaker.
