The goal of this lesson is to learn how to apply the precious blood of Christ to take care of the problems that arise out of our fallen human life so that we have a way to go on in spirit.Introduction
- As human beings we have many shortcomings.
- Anything that offends the perfect holiness and righteousness of God is called sin.
- If our experience of receiving the Lord is full and rich we may be delivered from some of our sins right away.
The First Problem Created by Sin - Separation from God
1 John 1:8
If we say that we do not have sin, we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us.Isaiah 59:1-2
- As long as we are living on this earth we are never completely freed from sin.
- If we don't take care of our sins properly the life and enjoyment of touching God in spirit will soon fade away.
1 No, Jehovah's hand is not so short that it cannot save;Hebrews 9:22
Nor is His ear so heavy that it cannot hear.
2 But your iniquities have become a separation
Between you and your God,
And your sins have hidden His face
From you so that He does not hear.
- Sins separate us from God so that He seems far away.
- God loves us but He hates sin so much that He must stay away from it.
And almost all things are purified by blood according to the law, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.Exodus 12:13
- No amount of prayer, penance, weeping, promises to do better, or time can take away sin.
- Only the precious blood of Christ can take sins away.
And the blood shall be a sign for you upon the houses where you are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and there will be no plague upon you to destroy you, when I strike the land of Egypt.John 1:29
- God was coming to judge Egypt because of their sin.
- Some of the children of Israel may have been as sinful as the Egyptians.
- God did not command them to behave better, He commanded them to kill a Passover lamb and sprinkle its blood on their doorposts.
- When God saw the blood He passed over that house.
The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
- Jesus is the Lamb of God. By His precious blood all your sins have been taken away.
- When God sees the blood He is happy, He can come to give you the enjoyment of His presence once more.
The Second Problem Created by Sin - Guilt in Your Conscience
Romans 6:23
- Guilt is the stain of sins on your conscience.
- When you are young, your conscience is only stained a little.
- As you get older, the stains of sin accumulate until your conscience has little light left.
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.Hebrews 9:14
- The penalty for sin is death.
- This is a stiff fine, impossible for you to pay.
14 How much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God?1 John 1:9
- Jesus Christ offered Himself to God to pay the full penalty of sin.
- The fine has been paid by Jesus!
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.Jeremiah 31:34b
- If we feel guilty, we need to confess our sins.
- We can pray something like this: "Lord, forgive me for what I did today. Lord, on the cross you died to pay for this sin. Lord, I believe that this sin has been forgiven by You. I clam Your precious blood to cleanse my conscience from any stain of guilt."
- God is faithful to both forgive and cleanse us.
34b I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.
- What God forgives, He forgets.
- Don't try to remind God of something He has already forgotten.
- Through the precious blood of Christ, the problem of guilt is solved.
The Third Problem Created by Sin - Accusation from Satan
Revelation 12:10
- Sometimes after you confess and apply the blood you still feel bad within.
- This does not mean that the blood of Christ did not work.
- Bad feelings that remain after you have confessed and applied the blood come from Satan.
10 And I heard a loud voice in heaven saying, Now has come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ, for the accuser of our brothers has been cast down, who accuses them before our God day and night.Zechariah 3:1,3
- Satan is the "accuser of our brothers".
- Satan spends most of his time accusing God's people.
- One day he will be cast out but for now we need to know how to overcome him.
1 Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the Angel of Jehovah and Satan standing at his right hand to be his adversary.Revelation 12:11
3 Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments and was standing before the angel.
- The "filthy garments" represented Joshua's poor, sinful condition.
- Our poor condition often gives Satan an opportunity to accuse us.
- Whenever we come to God or even fellowship with the brothers, Satan is there to accuse us.
- If we listen to the accusations we will lose our enjoyment of God in spirit. This is what Satan wants.
- God's light concerning sin:
- is concerning a specific sin that we need to confess and take care of,
- encourages us to come back to God, and
- is satisfied and at peace when we confess our sin and claim the cleansing of the precious blood.
- Satan's accusation:
- is usually general, making us feel bad without quite knowing why,
- drains and discourages us from going on, and
- won't stop no matter how often we confess our sins.
11 And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they loved not their soul-life even unto death.
- The blood of the Lamb has fully paid the penalty for every one of our sins.
- The word of our testimony is to declare the truth, even to Satan.
- If you have confessed your sin but still feel some uneasiness dragging you down, declare something like this: "Satan, you are a liar. I have confessed my sin to God and He has forgiven it. The blood of Jesus has cleansed me from every stain. Satan, you are defeated so don't bother me anymore."
- The precious blood of Christ enables us to overcome the enemy.
