The Controversy Concerning the Source of the Universe

The first chapter of the Bible is one of the most controversial. There is endless debate about creation versus evolution, the age of the universe, etc. But the real issues related to this chapter are much deeper than that.

The main issue concerns not the age but the source of the universe. As far as I know only two answers have ever been proposed. The answer in the Bible is that God created all things. The alternative is that all things came into being by chance. They just happen to be the way they are.

So it is worth considering: do the heavens and the earth appear to have been designed as the setting for God to accomplish His purpose in man as the Bible claims? (Rev. 4:11; Eph. 3:9) Or does the universe have the characteristics of the product of meaningless, random events?

Consistency and symmetry are product of intelligent design, not chance. Do the heavens and the earth have these characteristics or not? If you agree that they have them then it is only reasonable to conclude that there is a Designer.
