The Story of the Bible
The
story of the Bible is one of a great struggle between God and Satan to gain
people. Each of them had and still has his own purpose, intentions, strategy,
and ways to carry it out. For every move one of them makes the other counters
with another move of his own. Man is right in the middle of this greatest "game"
in the universe. Seemingly, this would make people mere pawns to be manipulated.
But this is not the case because God has determined not to do anything without
man's cooperation. This has made the outcome of the "game" dependent on which
of the two can capture people's hearts. The struggle is universal but the "play"
is in people's lives.
Genesis begins the story of the Bible. It starts from God's creation of the universe in general and man in particular for Himself. It also shows how God's enemy, Satan, seduced man into taking him, instead of God, into his being. It shows how Satan proceeded to instigate man to forsake God, live according to the lusts of his flesh, and even to conspire together to declare their independence from God.
Genesis also shows God still making a way for man to come to Him, gaining some to seek and follow Him, and His operation in their lives. Each generation of God's seekers learned from those who had gone before so that gradually God was able to gain more and more in the lives of His people.
Daniel lived long after God had not only gained some individuals but a nation for Himself. Yet Satan had seduced that nation to forsake God to the extent that their entire testimony had been lost. They were captives in the idol worshiping land that Abraham had come out of a millennium before. Yet God still had a testimony through some young men who served right in the king's palace in Babylon. They rejected every temptation, overcame every challenge, and gained a great victory for God in the midst of almost total defeat.
Be sure to read the additional thoughts at the end of each story. They provide helpful insights about how God was operating in the story and how it fits into the story of the Bible as a whole.
